The Theme of 12th WHRCF Confirmed:
Climate Change and Human Rights
International Steering Committee, consisting of Forumโs hosts and organizersโ persons in charge and human rights experts, was launched this year. Following in-depth discussions on this year's theme at the first meeting of the International Steering Committee held on March 14, the theme decided is "Climate Change and Human Rights." The serious global climate crisis has been causing numerous problems worldwide, which are directly linked to human rights. This year's Forum will, therefore, cover a variety of topics, including SDGs, New Urban Agenda, new technologies, education, and youth in the context of climate change. |

What is the connection
between climate change and human rightsโ
Persons in vulnerable situations may experience heightened exposure and vulnerability to climate-induced human rights harms. Rising sea levels, tropical and extratropical cyclones, increasing air and sea surface temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, and loss of adaptive capacity and ecosystem services have implications for the right to self-determination, cultural rights, the right to health and the right to life among other human rights. Call for Session Organizers ๐ค
Every year, civil society organizations from various fields participate in the World Human Rights Cities Forum to plan and conduct meetings, bring around citizensโ interest in human rights agendas, and affect the policy-making process of Gwangju City. Last year, for the first time, an open call was made for the organizers of the Thematic Sessions, which led to the successful participation of organizations from different areas. This year, we would like to expand the scope of the organizations' participation even further, and openly recruit organizations to join the 12th World Human Rights Cities Forum. For more information on the application process and provisions, please check the notice to be posted on the website in early April. We are looking forward to receiving your applications! |
